Get Your Pick at the Roof & Dick: Celebrate Art and Heritage at the Museum of Friends Gala
WALSENBURG, Colo. — On Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Museum of Friends will host a gala fundraiser and contemporary art sale at the historic Roof & Dick Building, located at 600 Main St., Walsenburg. This special evening marks the completion of four meticulous phases of masonry and structural work on the building and launches fundraising for the fifth phase of its rehabilitation. Promising an engaging blend of art, music, and community celebration, the event is dedicated to the ongoing preservation of this pivotal cultural landmark.

Event Schedule:
5 to 7 p.m. - Art, Music, and Culinary Delights:
Contemporary Art Sale and Silent Auction: Guests can acquire unique artworks from a wide range of genres, perfect for all tastes, preferences and price consideration. Browse and bid on pieces during our silent auction.
Live Entertainment: Enjoy captivating performances by Trio Lika Shubitidze, Archil Gheghechkori, and David Enke, setting a vibrant tone for the evening.
Cuisine and Refreshments: Indulge in a selection of hot hors d'oeuvres prepared by Go Ask Alys’ Catering. Each ticket includes two complimentary drinks, enhancing your gala experience.
7 to 9 p.m. - Dance Music:
DJ & Dancing: As the evening progresses, DJ H (Heather Curtis) will take over to energize the atmosphere, ensuring everyone has the chance to dance and connect.
Special Exhibit: Reimagining the Museum of Friends: Experience a special exhibit featuring visionary plans by Barbara and Bruce Darden of Scheuber + Darden Architects, showcasing designs for the future of the Roof & Dick Building. This exhibit will highlight the building's transformative potential, ensuring its continued role as a cultural beacon for generations to come.
The Roof & Dick Building’s Historical Significance: Once home to JCPenney Department Store and later a Ben Franklin and finally a Duckwall's Department Store this building has been a cornerstone of Walsenburg’s commercial history since its inception. Listed on the State Register of Historic Places, the Museum of Friends has spearheaded its rehabilitation plan and funding.
Ticket Information: Tickets are $75 each and include a raffle entry, along with two complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres. 10 tickets (one table) can be purchased at a discount for $750.
